ASTON MARTIN

The history of Aston Martin began in 1913 when Lionel Martin and Robert Bamford formed the company but plans were soon put on hold due to the First World War. After the war ended the company was re-founded but by 1924 it had gone bankrupt and a series of investors and failures took place until the Second World War.

After World War II farm tractor manufacturer David Brown acquired Lagonda and Aston Martin which led to the “DB” series of cars. By the early 1970’s the company’s financial difficulties resulted in its sale to Company Developments and resale in 1975 to Peter Sprague and George Minden. In 1980 Victor Gauntlett  bought a stake in Aston Martin and in 1987 the Ford Motor Company took a share. By the early 1990s Ford had acquired full control. In 2007 a group led by David Richards purchased Aston Martin from Ford.
