Introduced on April 17, 1964 at the New York World’s Fair, the Mustang was a sensation that created a new category of American automobiles referred to as “Pony Cars.” Although Plymouth’s Barracuda had actually been introduced two weeks earlier, on April 01, the Mustang was far better marketed.
Some would be disappointed that it wasn’t the sports car that Ford had first attached to the name; mechanically it was fundamentally a Falcon. A small fun economical car that with available options and aftermarket accessories could be made into something much sportier or taken a step further, purchase the Shelby GT 350 version and go racing.
