DODGE

John and Horace Dodge may have been a bit crude but they were honest and hardworking. In 1899 they along with Fred Evans organized the Evans & Dodge Bicycle Company in Windsor, Ontario. The bicycle company was sold and in 1901 the Dodge brothers opened a machine shop in Detroit. Among the things they built were transmissions for Olds. In 1903 they began manufacturing engines for Henry Ford in return for a 10% ownership of the Ford Motor Company.

In 1914 the brothers formed Dodge Brothers, Inc. to build their own cars and Henry Ford started building his own engines. In 1928 Chrysler purchased Dodge.
