It was Childe Harold Wills who designed Ford’s oval logo. It was also Wills who was responsible for the Model T’s planetary transmission and for it being built with vanadium steel.
Wills was a millionaire when he left Ford and he used that wealth to start C.H. Wills and Company in Marysville, Michigan to build Wills Sainte Claire automobiles. Production began in 1921, the cars were of high quality but there was a problem, Wills was a fanatic for perfection. This obsession resulted production delays and increased costs. Most of his staff left a year later and the company went into receivership. In 1923, with new financing, the company was re-started as Wills Sainte Claire, Inc.
Wills produced several body styles but no profit. The factory closed in 1927.
It was Myron Perley who did the advertising illustrations. 1925 WILLS SAINTE CLAIRE ADVERTISEMENT
