REO

In 1904, Ransom E. Olds founded the REO Motor Car Company in Lansing, Michigan after leaving the Olds Motor Works (Oldsmobile). In 1910, the company added trucks with the Speed Wagon line appearing in 1915.

Reo introduced the Flying Cloud and Wolverine in 1927 then, what many consider to have been the nicest of all REOs, the Royale 8 in 1931. However, financial difficulties during the Great Depression caused REO to stop producing autos in 1936.

The company now concentrated on building trucks. Government contracts during WWII helped but after the war the company had to be reorganized. In 1957, REO was sold to White Motor Company which combined it with Diamond T in 1967 to form Diamond-Reo Trucks, Inc.  In 1975, Diamond-Reo went bankrupt.
